Entrepreneurial Solutions Partners (ESP), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation under its Hanga Ahazaza program, has launched its fifth call for applications for young hospitality and start-up businesses to join the Tourism Inc. incubator program. Twenty-five applicants will be selected for the program and receive skills-building, seed funding, and access to a co-working space along with information and networking opportunities.
The tourism and hospitality sector is a significant contributor to Rwanda’s economic development and was among the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. With this program, young entrepreneurs and start-ups will have access to support to enable them to bounce back from the effects of COVID and prosper in a post-COVID business environment.
Interested applicants must meet the following criteria to apply:
- Must be a start-up (or have a start-up idea) in the tourism and hospitality sector (or be a supplier to the industry).
- Must be between 18 and 35 years of age.
- Must be based and operating in Rwanda.
- Women entrepreneurs are highly encouraged to apply.

The London Business School, in collaboration with the Growth Movement, a United Kingdom-based social enterprise, seek to support SMEs in Rwanda to address challenges post-COVID19 through their Digital for Impact programme. The programme will connect SMEs in Rwanda with top student consultants from the London Business School for business advisory services. Through the programme, SMEs in Rwanda will be assigned five business consultants to support them with tangible business solutions and recommendations to grow and pivot their enterprises. Additionally, SMEs will have the opportunity to network with London Business School’s extensive network of alumni and corporate partners and will earn a programme certificate from the institution. To be eligible for this opportunity, the business should:
- Be located in Rwanda or Uganda
- Have five or more employees Be fluent in English, have access to great internet and computer
- Be able to access virtual communication tools like Zoom, Webex, and others
- Have a digital-related opportunity or challenge
- Be dedicated to improving your business and outline a specific business challenge or project for the duration related to the “Digital for Impact” theme

Norwegian Agency for Development (NORAD), in partnership with Africa118, is inviting entrepreneurs to apply for the digital launchpad program. The program will support over 3,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in six African countries including 250 in Rwanda with access to training in financial literacy, digital marketing, and investment readiness as well as support with e-commerce and access to financing. The Digital Launchpad project targets SMEs with less than 50 employees and limited digital marketing expertise with a particular focus on businesses involved in export, agribusiness, and fisheries and agriculture, among others.

- Possess limited digital marketing expertise
- Confirm availability to attend the scheduled training, coaching acceleration, and mentorship activities
- Demonstrate the willingness to contribute 50% of the cost ($200) for services offered in year 2 and 100% of the cost ($400) for assistance in year 3
- Commit to participate for the entire 3-year program duration from 2021 to 2023
NB: The program will give priority to women and youth-owned businesses.

Accelerate2030 Rwanda, a scale-readiness program, seeks to support entrepreneurs from emerging and developing markets to scale up their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) solutions. Through the program, entrepreneurs will receive support that aims to shape and help them implement their scaling strategy. Entrepreneurs will be taken through a bootcamp and have access toworkshops, coaching, and online support as well access to strategic connections to investors, international organizations, and corporations.
The Accelerate2030 program seeks innovative youth-led businesses whose solutions are related to the following SDGs:
- SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy
- SDG11: Sustainable cities and communities
- SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production
- SDG 13: Climate Action
- SDG 15: Life on land
Selection of business to participate in the program will be based on:

Digital Marketing Mentoring Programme seeks applicants as part of SheTrades Rwanda Project
The International Trade Center’s Women and Trade Programme invites women-owned businesses to apply for its digital marketing mentoring programme under the SheTrades Rwanda Project. The programme will enable twenty applicants to receive mentorship from a digital marketing expert from from early July to August 2021.
The SheTrades Rwanda project aims to increase competitiveness of women owned businesses in Rwanda and connect them to markets. The project is a component of the Enhanced Integrated Framework’s funded “Project to Enhance the Effectiveness and Efficiency of Export of Growth Initiatives” managed by the Ministry of Trade and Industry. SheTrades Rwanda plans to improve the business ecosystem to support women’s economic empowerment initiatives and activities by establishing the SheTrades Hub in Rwanda. Additionally, the project intends to increase women-owned businesses’ linkages opportunities in the coffee and horticulture sector.
To be eligible for the programme, interested applicants should:
- Have 30% of the business owned, managed and controlled by women.

The National Industrial Research and Development Agency (NIRDA), with support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, has established a new Incubator and Accelerator Facility (I/AF) for the wood sector. The main objective of the I/AF is to improve the competitiveness of start-ups and companies in the wood value chain. Selected applicants will participate in 7-8 months incubator/accelerator programs to support them to improve the performance of their businesses, increase their access to the market, and the ability of their companies to compete in the market. The facility will offer a general and tailored set of services for start-ups, companies, and cooperatives from the wood sector, including:
- Business advice
- Entrepreneurship and business management training
- Coaching and mentoring
- Access to technical infrastructure
- Technical assistance
- Market information services
- Marketing assistance
- Facilitation of financial and investment linkages
- Facilitation of linkages for technological upgrading
The incubator program will target early-stage start-ups with less than 12 months of business operations to increase their competitiveness within the wood processing sector and established entrepreneurs who seek to diversify into the wood sector for the first time. To be eligible for this program, the business has to be new to using wood components.
The accelerator program will target entrepreneurs, business owners, and management teams in more mature micro, small, medium-sized, or large enterprises and cooperatives in the wood sector. During the program, participants will be given general and tailored assistance to accelerate their growth, attract investors and expand into their market reach nationally, regionally and internationally. Only businesses in the wood sector with more than 12 months of business operations are eligible to apply for the accelerator program. The applications opened on 10th June 2021, and they will close on 25th June 2021, at 12 pm.
The I/AF program seeks to support companies with the potential to grow and contribute to the development of the wood sector.

Kunda Arts Collective, a platform for creative arts founded by multidisciplinary artists in Rwanda, will be hosting the Cultural Entrepreneurs Lab, a three-day workshop in Kigali from 18th – 20th June 2021. The workshop will support cultural entrepreneurs by equipping them with the relevant business skills and entrepreneurial mindset to grow and sustain their businesses.
The selected applicants will participate in an interactive workshop where they will learn business skills such as:
– Financial management
– Digital marketing
– Pricing and negotiation skills &
– Grant writing.
Additionally, the selected applicants will get an opportunity to network with other successful artists and cultural entrepreneurs to gain insights and knowledge from established artists in the industry.
To be eligible for this opportunity, interested applicants must be cultural entrepreneurs in music, filmmaking and acting, painting, dancing, poetry and writing, architecture, carpentry or any other artistic discipline. Successful applicants will be required to bring a laptop to participate in Saturday and Sunday sessions. The deadline for applications is 30th May 2021.

Call for Application – Smart Cities Innovation Programme
Invest for Jobs, in collaboration with the Rwandan government and Make-IT in Africa, has organized the Smart Cities Innovation Programme (SCIP) to support the growth of digital urban innovations in Rwanda and beyond.
The six-month accelerator programme will support high potential tech start-ups from Rwanda and other African countries working in the same field of smart cities. The programme is divided into three tracks: smart mobility, smart housing & fintech for affordability, supporting ten start-ups.
During the programme, selected start-ups will benefit from individual mentoring, training and intensive networking, matchmaking with international business partners and investors. The call for applications officially opened and will run until the 9th of May 2021.
SCIP will be implemented in collaboration with various partners, including Volkswagen, Siemens, and the African Business Angels Network (ABAN) so that applicants have access to highly specialised technical expertise. Successful start-up applicants will also have the opportunity to use Green City Kigali, Rwanda’s flagship smart city project, to test their solutions and enter the Rwandan market.
To be eligible for the programme, start-ups must have already launched their tech-enabled product or service on the African market and have customers. Start-ups should also have a high growth and job creation potential and a positive social and/or environmental impact. Finally, start-ups from Rwanda and/or with female members in management are preferred at equal qualification.

The African Management Institute (AMI) is set to provide 100 female entrepreneurs with training in business skills and tools through a one-year partnership agreement signed with the Rwanda Chamber of Women Entrepreneurs operating under the Private Sector Federation. The training will aim to support female entrepreneurs to bounce back from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on their businesses through training and advisory services. The training will be accessible to women entrepreneurs who have a membership with the Chamber of women entrepreneurs. Successful applicants will have access to two AMI training programs, Business Survival Bootcamp, and Survive to Thrive with new learning content added to address specific challenges faced by female entrepreneurs.
